Robotic snow removal in Colorado

Colorado snow comes in extremes. Denver can go weeks without a flake and then take two feet in a night when an upslope storm parks against the Front Range. Boulder averages nearly double Denver. Steamboat gets four times Boulder. And between storms the sun does half the clearing for free.

That pattern suits a robot. Zippy Snow installs a self-driving Yarbo snow blower that clears in layers through the night and recharges between passes, so an eighteen-inch storm never sits eighteen inches deep on your driveway. Dry Front Range powder is also the easiest snow a two-stage auger will ever throw.

Measured from when the snow stops. Colorado law also prohibits pushing or blowing snow onto a public road, with per-day fines, so apron and sidewalk throw zones always aim onto your own lawn. Nearly every Front Range city adds that the windrow the plow leaves across your driveway is yours to clear.

Robotic snow removal in Colorado — FAQ

Do you install robotic snow blowers in Colorado?

Yes. Zippy West is our Colorado crew, and they install, map and service the same Yarbo systems as our east-coast crews. Map your driveway and they will tell you honestly whether they can reach you this season.

What happens when we get 18 inches overnight?

The 12-inch intake is per pass, not per storm. Storm mode sends the robot out as accumulation begins and keeps it cycling, so in a big storm it clears three or four inches at a time, docks, charges and goes back out. It never actually meets 18 inches on the pavement.

Does the battery cope with Colorado cold and altitude?

The system is rated to −25 °C with onboard heating for colder nights. Lithium batteries do give less usable capacity when cold, so runtime per charge drops and the robot simply docks more often. Altitude is a non-issue for an electric drive, unlike a carbureted gas engine.

Does Colorado’s 30 percent electric equipment discount apply?

Ask before you buy. Colorado runs a 30 percent point-of-sale discount on electric mowers, trimmers, blowers and snow blowers at participating retailers, scheduled to end on 31 December 2026 unless the legislature extends it. Whether a Yarbo snow module qualifies depends on the retailer and the state’s reading of the statute, so we would rather you confirm than assume.

Will mag chloride damage the robot?

It is corrosive over a season, the same as it is on your car. Tracks, augers and the underside collect it, so rinsing and greasing are part of our maintenance visits and the spring tear-down. It is not a reason to avoid a robot; it is a reason to service one.

My driveway is long, steep and gravel. Is it a fit?

Maybe, and we will measure rather than guess. Yarbo rates the snow configuration to a 36 percent grade, the intake raises about two inches to skim gravel, and foothills driveways under heavy trees also need a sky check for the satellite antenna. Sometimes the honest answer is that we clear the flat parts and the hill stays a plow job.
