“Does the battery die in the cold?” is the most common question we get. Batteries and deep cold are genuinely awkward companions — so this is engineered around, not ignored.

The numbers

By Yarbo’s published specs, the snow configuration runs a 38.4 Ah battery and operates at temperatures down to −25 °C (−13 °F) as standard. For genuinely brutal climates there’s an extreme-cold option with onboard heating that protects the battery and drivetrain down to −40 °C. The body is IPX5 water-resistant — wet snow, sleet, and slush are all in-spec.

The charging loop

The robot manages its own energy through a storm:

  1. Works its route until the battery reaches roughly 20%
  2. Drives itself to the dock and fast-charges — about 1.5 hours for a full charge
  3. Heads back out (typically around 80%) and resumes exactly where the route needs it

One charge covers roughly 6,000 square feet of one-inch snow; deeper storms simply mean more dock cycles, which the robot handles without anyone’s help.

What your crew does

For managed customers, battery health is part of what we monitor — dock power, charge cycles, and cold-weather behavior — so a weak pack gets caught in November, not during the January nor’easter.
